Anyone who is ill or has displayed any symptoms of COVID-19 are encouraged to stay home.  They will be dispensed from their Sunday obligation.

We will continue the requirements to wear a mask inside the church for masses at this time.

For people who would still feel more comfortable with socially distant seating, we will continue to have the front section of the church with alternate rows closed to seating.  We will start gradually opening rows from the back of the church in the coming weeks depending on the need.  We ask that those who would feel safer with some distance among people to come to church a bit earlier to take a seat toward the front, and ask others to cooperate in keeping their safe distance.

The procedures for the sign of peace and communion will be the same: come in a single line, socially distant and receive Holy communion only in your hands, step aside to briefly lower your mask to consume the host.  At heavily attended masses, there will be a priest distributing communion in the same fashion at the back of the church.

The ushers will take up the collection and bring to the altar (there will be baskets in the front at Korean Masses).

6:30pm Sunday masses will continue through June to accommodate those who prefer a less crowded mass to fulfill their Sunday obligation and we will update you monthly on its status.

We are trying our best to meet the needs of the faithful who want to fulfill their Sunday Obligations, and we have chosen to err on the side of caution, especially for those whose immune system may be compromised.  COVID-19 era has been a difficult period for all, and as we transition toward a healthy and safe place to worship, we ask for your cooperation and understanding.   Thank you.

Statement from Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Regarding the Hyde Amendment and the Sanctity of LifeText

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I am deeply concerned that the proposed federal budget would eliminate the Hyde Amendment, which, for 45 years, has prohibited the use of federal funds for abortion. The Hyde Amendment is credited with saving the lives of millions of children. Now, the powerful pro-abortion lobby and members of Congress are calling for the elimination of this Amendment and the implementation of a policy that would designate billions of taxpayer dollars for elective abortions. Taxpayer-funded abortion represents a failure to recognize the sanctity of human life and promotes a culture in which human life in its most vulnerable moment is perceived as disposable. Such a proposal targets poor women as needing an expedient solution to a complex problem.

Pope Francis has said, “it is troubling to see how simple and convenient it has become for some to deny the existence of a human life as a solution to problems that can and must be solved for both the mother and her unborn child.” He notes that abortion “is not a primarily religious issue but one of human ethics.”

It is crucially important that we send a strong, clear message that the Hyde Amendment has far-reaching public support and should not be repealed. Members of Congress need to hear from as many of us as possible. Please read the Action Alerts posted by the New Jersey Catholic Conference at, and join me in acting before July 16 to send this urgent message to Congress. Sign the petition at

Know of my continued prayers for each of you.

Sincerely Yours in Christ the Redeemer,

Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R.

Archbishop of Newark
