Lent

Jesus died for YOU on the cross because He loves YOU

This Lent, some ways you can return His love include:

  • Repenting and turning to Jesus in Reconciliation
  • Honoring His Passion during Stations of the Cross
  • Spending time with Him in Eucharistic Adoration
  • Attending an Extra Weekly Mass and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist

The Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross are a powerful devotional practice that invites us to walk alongside Jesus on his sorrowful journey to Calvary. Through a series of 14 stations, we meditate on key moments of Christ's Passion, from his condemnation by Pilate to his burial in the tomb. This prayerful reflection allows us to connect deeply with Jesus' sacrifice, deepening our awareness of his immense love for us.

The Stations of the Cross remind us that while suffering is a part of the human experience, Christ walks with us through our trials, offering hope and the promise of redemption.

Join us for the Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent, in the morning after the 8:30am (roughly 9:05am) Mass, or in the evening after the 5:30pm  (roughly 6:05pm) Mass.

Texts used include: The Way of the Cross

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration is when we spend time adoring the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist outside of the Mass. During this time, the Eucharistic Host is displayed in a monstrance on the altar allowing people to see and pray in the presence of Jesus Christ.

Join us for Eucharistic Adoration every Saturday during Lent from 4pm - 5:15pm.

And on Holy Thursday, March 28, from 9pm-12pm.

Lenten Penance Service

Our Lenten Penance Service provides a sacred space for communal reflection and individual confession during this season of spiritual renewal. Guided by Scripture readings and a priest's homily, we examine our hearts, acknowledging our sins and shortcomings. It's a moment to honestly confront where we've fallen short and to embrace God's boundless mercy.

The opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation within the service enables us to receive forgiveness and grace, beginning a journey of transformation as we strive to live more fully in Christ's image during Lent and beyond.

Join us for the Lenten Penance Service Monday March 18 at 7:30pm.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also available: Mondays 9AM-9:30AM & Saturdays 4:45PM-5:15PM

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the solemn beginning of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that prepares us for Christ's Resurrection at Easter.  On this day, we receive ashes on our foreheads in the shape of a cross, a powerful symbol of our mortality and the need for repentance.

The words spoken, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return," call us to humility and a renewed commitment to turn away from sin and embrace the Gospel. Ash Wednesday invites us into a season of deeper reflection, self-examination, and growth as we journey towards Easter with hearts renewed.

Lenten Regulations

  1. The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday (February 14) and Good Friday (March 29) If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resurrection.
    • The other Fridays of Lent (February 16, 23; March 1, 8, 15, 22) are days of abstinence.
    • On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted, and two (2) smaller meals, which, if added together, would not exceed the main meal in quantity.
    • Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.
    • On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence.
  2. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence “substantially”, or as a whole, is a serious obligation.
  3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designed as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance.
  4. The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty) extends from the First Sunday of Lent, February 18 to The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, May 26, 2024.
